Chestertown, MD—Thad L. Bench, Sr., President and CEO of Benchworks, a full services marketing firm, received the 2010 Business Leader of the Year Award from the Kent County Chamber of Commerce at their 41st Annual Excellence in Business Awards program. The Chamber of Commerce Business Leader of the Year Award is given to a Chamber business, principal or officer who has displayed solid leadership in setting the positive direction of his/her company, and has maintained integrity, professionalism and vision within the free enterprise system of our region.
Thad was recognized for his outstanding leadership and discipline in business. His management style is described as simple and effective, “surround yourself with great people and great things will follow.”  He supports the Kent County community by hiring locally, coordinating internships with Washington College and supporting local charities and businesses. Thad is involved with several local boards including The Kent School, Preservation Maryland, The Democratic Central Committee and is owner of the Good Will Vessel for the National Sailing Hall of Fame. His company, Benchworks, has been named to the Inc. 500/5000 list of the fastest growing private companies in America and was recently recognized by SmartCEO in Baltimore for their Future 50 awards as one of the fastest growing businesses in the Baltimore area.
“A great leader lifts the organization’s spirit during tough times and exhibits the stamina required for long term success. Real leaders show up every day and give it their all every year. By the virtue of the fact that Benchworks is headquartered in a rural environment, we can serve as an economic engine for our community.  Benchworks makes every attempt to support and utilize our local businesses and support local charities. Giving back to the community we call home is a core responsibility of any profitable enterprise,” shares Thad.
Upon receiving the award, Thad thanked his dedicated and talented colleagues, “Because of their hard work I am honored to receive this prestigious award from the Chamber.” He is proud to be able to run such a successful business out of Chestertown.
